Speech Level Singing is an absolute refusal on the part of the performer to help the pitches in any way.”
- Seth Riggs
In other words, it should be just as easy to sing as it is to speak.
What is Speech Level Singing?
Speech Level Singing (also called SLS) is the world’s most renowned singing techinque. It was developed to handle the fierce demands placed on the world’s top performers, performing multiple shows per day, day after day. It is the number one method for singers wishing to learn how to sing or improve their voice.
Today the technique is used by over 135 Grammy and Tony award winners, four metropolitan opera winners and countless Broadway stars and major motion picture and television personalities including 7 American Idol winners! The prestigious Liverpool Institute of Performing Art’s (LIPA) founded by Paul McCartney insist all their teachers are Speech-Level-Singing Certified Instructors.
Who uses the SLS Method?
Many award winning artists and celebrities have worked with and use SLS technique, including: Nicole Kidman, Olivia Newton-John, Madonna, Michael Bolton, Bette Midler, Cher, Belinda Carlisle, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Michael and Janet Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Prince, Lionel Ritchie, Fleetwood Mac, Eurythmics, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Kiss, Diana Ross, and many others.
How does it work?
You learn the techniques to keep even tension on your vocal cords so you can pass through the bridges in your voice, smoothing over and eliminating any “breaks” in your voice.
You also learn techniques to increase your vocal range.
Learning SLS leads you to a new way of singing. The exercises painlessly train your vocal folds to automatically work in a more efficient and effective manner.
The end result is a longer and stronger vocal range without stress or strain.
